WORKING WITH RECRUITERS
BT People aims to support the candidates’ experience of finding the perfect project, role and career path as seamless as possible.
However it is important to recognise that recruiters generally are sales target driven and BT People can help you avoid some common traps:
- Never put your referee details on your resume – recruiters consider these ‘leads’ or ‘hiring managers’ and will immediately call them
- Be wary of recruiters asking where else you have applied – the recruiter is once again looking for leads and they will put another candidate forward for the same job in the hope of winning the fee
- Don’t let a recruiter pressure you into accepting an offer. If you have concerns, questions or need additional information then ask for it. A prospective employer will wait for you if you are the right person, whereas a recruiter struggling to meet their targets may not!
- Keep track of any and all applications you make to employers or recruiters. Only ever allow a recruiter to forward your resume to a customer with express written permission from you. It’s your name and skills being put out there – keep control of your reputation!
